X Replaces Creator Revenue Sharing With Original Content Rewards
X is ending its controversial revenue-sharing program for content creators and replacing it with a new system called “Original Content Rewards” on September 8. The move is the latest change affecting creators after several tumultuous years of revisions under Elon Musk. To qualify for the new program, creators must have at least 500 verified followers and receive at least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users during the previous 90 days. The company says additional requirements also apply. X says the program is intended to shift attention away from exploiting loopholes and using clickbait. Under the proposed system, simply repurposing other people’s content or replying to posts would not be a viable source of income. Allegra Jacchia, Senior Product Manager for Creators at SpaceXAI, said on X that the program was designed to “reward the creators who bring original ideas, expertise, creativity, and unique perspectives to 𝕏 — not those who have become best at gaming the system.” Creators participating in the existing revenue-sharing program will continue earning revenue through September 7. For Somali creators seeking to qualify, success will depend on reaching verified followers and viewers rather than relying on broad circulation alone.
