
Stablecoins Show No Consistent Remittance Advantage, Study Finds
A Bank of Italy study found that stablecoin remittances do not systematically outperform traditional payment channels on cost or speed. Researchers said fiat on- and off-ramp costs and payment infrastructure accounted for most differences in remittance costs and settlement times, rather than blockchain fees. For Somali households receiving money from abroad, conversion and access costs remain central when comparing stablecoins with existing transfer methods.
