UEFA Withdraws Confidence in FIFA President Gianni Infantino

Published:

Gianni Infantino’s hopes of escaping the fallout from the World Cup private-investment wreckage disappeared on Saturday. UEFA launched a blistering attack on the FIFA president, declaring that it had “lost confidence” in his leadership. European football’s governing body used words including “shabby” and “secret schemes.” Its statement followed five dramatic days for football and revived memories of the European Super League crisis in 2021. That breakaway league was formed by 12 major European clubs, including six from the Premier League, but quickly unravelled. Former England defender Gary Neville described it as “pure greed.” The clash between FIFA and UEFA gives Somali supporters good reason to watch closely who is shaping the direction of world football.
