KFC and Oreo are expanding their unusual sweet-and-savory partnership with a new chicken burger that uses black, cookie-style buns and crushed Oreo pieces. The menu item is called the Oreo Original Recipe Chicken Burger. It is built around a fried chicken thigh fillet, rather than a conventional beef patty. Alongside the fried chicken, the burger includes mashed potatoes covered with crushed Oreo pieces. The combination brings sweet cookie flavour into a sandwich otherwise centred on fried chicken and potatoes. Two black Oreo-flavoured buns hold the sandwich together. They were designed to resemble Oreo’s chocolate wafers, but KFC says the buns are made from bread, not from two oversized cookies. KFC China announced the burger on Weibo, describing it as a collision of sweet and savoury flavours. The company said it will arrive at KFC restaurants across China on August 28. Promotional material shows the sandwich served with an Original Recipe chicken-flavoured Oreo cookie. The product follows an earlier August collaboration in which KFC’s Original Recipe fried chicken was turned into an Oreo flavour. KFC has not said how long the burger will remain available. It has also not announced whether the item could later be sold at restaurants outside China. The release comes weeks after KFC China began selling whole watermelons alongside a special roasted-chicken combo. Oreo has also been testing savoury-inspired flavours in the United States, recently launching Chicken & Waffles, Banana Pudding and Deep Fried Oreos. Customers are being asked to vote on which flavour returns in 2027. For now, the black Oreo burger is available only in China, so people hoping to try it will need to be there after launch.
