Infinity Ward has released the first update for the Modern Warfare 4 beta as it enters its second day of testing. Following initial player feedback, the patch introduces several notable changes to the game's audio and weapon balance. The update, which rolled out on Saturday, August 22, also expands the available content with a new multiplayer map and a fresh game mode for participants to try. A major focus of this early patch is the adjustment of in-game audio, specifically concerning player movement. Infinity Ward noted that it heard the community "loud and clear on the footstep volume" and has subsequently decreased both the overall volume and the distance at which enemy footsteps and gear sounds can be heard. The developer explained that its goal for movement audio is to warn players of approaching enemies without giving away their exact locations from far away, adding that it will continue to monitor feedback on the issue. The studio has also addressed concerns regarding the game's time-to-kill, stating that it "isn't quite right yet" and reducing the lethality of specific weapons. The ISO Nightshade submachine gun now features a reduced headshot multiplier and increased damage falloff at longer ranges. Similarly, the Oris 8.6 marksman rifle has received a nerf to its headshot multiplier and a shorter initial range before its damage begins to drop. Additionally, the Oris 8.6's Razor attachment will now require more time between throws. Beyond weapon specifics, the developers have reduced the effectiveness of Frangible Rounds, decreasing both the duration and the magnitude of the slowing effect they apply to targets. Visual adjustments have also been made to the existing Transit 213 map. Infinity Ward has altered the overall color balance and brightened some of the darker shadowed areas to improve player visibility across the environment. The update introduces Cachette, a new core 6v6 map set in an abandoned wine warehouse and a mechanic's garage located near a French rail terminal. The map appears relatively small based on overhead views. With Cachette bringing the total number of available maps to four, the developers have also enabled map voting in the pre-match lobby. Alongside the map, a new game mode called Inflation has been added to the playlist rotation. In the new Inflation mode, players must eliminate enemies to collect cash. The wealthiest players in the match are designated as High-Value Targets (HVTs) and are marked for everyone else to hunt. Defeating an HVT allows players to steal their accumulated funds. However, players who manage to survive while marked as an HVT will begin to earn increased cash multipliers the longer they stay alive. The patch notes detail several bug fixes, resolving issues that prevented players from starting or completing the mobility course and fixing errors encountered when accessing the Gunsmith. The update also corrects wet-surface footstep audio and addresses a bug where certain magnified optics appeared completely opaque when aiming down the sights. Additionally, players can now reroll their daily challenges. Infinity Ward acknowledged a few lingering issues that are still under investigation. The team is actively working on a fix for a bug that prevents players from joining matches in progress on the Kill Block mode. The developer is also looking into player reports that holding or "cooking" lethal equipment before throwing it can cause the game's framerate to drop. This beta update requires a download before Somali players across the region and in the diaspora can access the new map rotation. Players relying on limited mobile data plans should check the patch size on their specific platform, as Call of Duty updates often require significant storage space and bandwidth to complete.
