Terraria Mod Calamity Shuts Down After Leadership Allegations
Calamity, one of Terraria’s largest fan-made mods, has ended development. Over a decade, the project expanded the game’s endgame with new bosses, classes and other content on a scale that rivaled the base game. In a public statement posted on Discord, the Calamity team cited a “troubled past” and a reputation it described as “irrecoverably tainted.” The statement did not name any individuals. A Reddit investigation published on August 8 accused the project’s current lead developer, Ozzatron, of endangering minors on Discord. It also alleged that he tried to bury the issue after it surfaced within the team. The fallout has already affected Calamity and related work. Composer CD Music resigned, the Catalyst side project was shelved, and planned content such as Sunken Sea never appeared. Some contributors also asked for their work to be removed from the mod. The team said it no longer had enough developers to process every request, making the end of development “the closest thing we can do to fulfilling everybody’s requests.” The project has previously faced allegations involving its leadership. Original lead developer Fabsol was pushed out years ago following similar misconduct claims. Long-time fans are now seeing a second leader of the same project face closely resembling accusations. Calamity’s future remains uncertain. Ozzatron holds sole ownership of the mod’s GitHub repository and has reportedly gone quiet since the allegations surfaced. The shutdown leaves a significant gap in Terraria’s modding community. It also follows a reported incident in May in which a prominent Sea of Thieves community figure was banned over allegations involving a minor. For Somali players who follow Terraria, the end of a decade-long project leaves one of the community’s most expansive creations facing an uncertain future.
