Abbott Investigates Two Cybersecurity Incidents

Published:
Updated:

Abbott Laboratories has confirmed unauthorized access to a limited number of legacy Exact Sciences systems in its Cancer Diagnostics business. The company says the incident has not affected business operations, manufacturing, laboratory work, product availability or its ability to serve patients. Abbott activated its incident-response process and brought in outside specialists while notifying law enforcement. Separately, it is examining a claim that attackers breached the LabCentral portal and stole company data. That second allegation has not been confirmed in the same way as the access to the legacy systems. Why it matters: a confirmed intrusion and an extortion group's separate claim do not carry the same evidentiary weight. The source also does not report that Abbott products or patient safety were compromised.
